I recently had the privilege of visiting Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, representing Solent Streetworks. This visit marked an important opportunity to engage with new partners, explore potential collaborations and gain first-hand insight into a rapidly developing infrastructure landscape.
From the outset, I was deeply impressed by the professionalism, courtesy and hospitality extended by everyone I met. The people of Saudi Arabia are genuinely proud of their country’s transformation and are eager to exchange ideas with international counterparts.
Riyadh is a city of contrast and ambition — its skyline reflects both heritage and progress. The architecture is striking, the infrastructure continues to expand at pace and there is a clear focus on innovation and sustainability in line with Vision 2030.
During my time in the Kingdom, I was fortunate to meet a number of professionals and decision-makers working across highways, utilities and urban development. These discussions reinforced the importance of international knowledge sharing and how collaboration can drive efficiencies and raise standards across the sector.
It was also fascinating to experience first-hand how Street Works and Traffic Management are approached in a different legislative environment. Observing how local practices balance efficiency, safety and delivery has provided valuable perspective as Solent Streetworks continues to refine its own end-to-end service offering in the UK and beyond.
My visit also offered the chance to appreciate Riyadh’s cultural and architectural highlights, including the Sky Bridge at the Kingdom Tower and Al Awwal Park — both excellent examples of the city’s modern identity and ambition.
As Saudi Arabia continues to develop under Vision 2030, there is enormous potential for partnership, innovation and shared learning within infrastructure and transport sectors.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Saudi people for their generous hospitality and warm welcome throughout my visit. I look forward to the opportunity to return in the future.
شكرًا للشعب السعودي على كرم الضيافة. لقد كان من الرائع زيارة بلادكم، وآمل أن أعود لزيارتها مرة أخرى يومًا ما.
